The BCC/B2 Morphologies in AlxNiCoFeCr High-Entropy Alloys

چکیده
The present work investigates primarily the morphology evolution of the body-centeredcubic (BCC)/B2 phases in AlxNiCoFeCr high-entropy alloys (HEAs) with increasing Al content, which has been neglected so far. There exist two types of microscopic morphologies of BCC and B2 phases in this HEA series: one is the weave-like morphology induced by the spinodal decomposition, and the other is the microstructure of a spherical disordered BCC precipitation on the ordered B2 matrix that appears in HEAs with a much higher Al content. The shape of coherent precipitates is found to be closely related to the lattice misfit between BCC and B2 phases, which is sensitive to Al. The mechanical properties, including the compressive yielding strength and microhardness of the AlxNiCoFeCr HEAs, are also discussed in light of the concept of the valence electron concentration (VEC).

Interplay between Lattice Distortions, Vibrations and Phase Stability in NbMoTaW High Entropy Alloys
Refractory high entropy alloys (HEA), such as BCC NbMoTaW, represent a promising materials class for next-generation high-temperature applications, due to their extraordinary mechanical properties. A characteristic feature of HEAs is the formation of single-phase solid solutions. For BCC NbMoTaW, recent computational studies revealed, however, a B2(Mo,W;Nb,Ta)-ordering at ambient temperature. T...

In the recent past, there has been considerable emphasis placed on the exploration of high entropy alloys (HEA). These alloys have been defined as ones with five or more, essentially equal atomic concentrations [1, 2]. CoCrCuFeNiAl is an example of an HEA alloy which mainly consists of two phases, namely ordered B2 and disordered bcc. Although this alloy has been the subject of much study and i...
متن کاملA Promising New Class of High-Temperature Alloys: Eutectic High-Entropy Alloys
High-entropy alloys (HEAs) can have either high strength or high ductility, and a simultaneous achievement of both still constitutes a tough challenge. The inferior castability and compositional segregation of HEAs are also obstacles for their technological applications. To tackle these problems, here we proposed a novel strategy to design HEAs using the eutectic alloy concept, i.e. to achieve ...
متن کاملAtomic Structure Modeling of Multi-Principal-Element Alloys by the Principle of Maximum Entropy
Atomic structure models of multi-principal-element alloys (or high-entropy alloys) composed of four to eight componential elements in both BCC and FCC lattice structures are built according to the principle of maximum entropy. With the concept of entropic force, the maximum-entropy configurations of these phases are generated through the use of Monte Carlo computer simulation. The efficiency of...
متن کاملEntropy and Diffuse Scattering: Comparison of NbTiVZr and CrMoNbV
The chemical disorder intrinsic to high entropy alloys inevitably creates diffuse scattering in their x-ray or neutron diffraction patterns. Through first principles hybrid Monte Carlo/molecular dynamics simulations of two BCC high entropy alloy forming compounds, CrMoNbV and NbTiVZr, we identify the contributions of chemical disorder, atomic size and thermal fluctuations to the diffuse scatter...
